About
It started with my grandfather.
I'm Matt, a Sydney-based videographer, photographer and creative producer who still loves seeing a good idea come to life.
The first camera
My first film teacher was my 爷爷, my grandfather. Whenever we went on a family holiday or got together for a celebration, he brought his Panasonic camcorder and made videos of our time together. I was fascinated by what he was doing, and when I was eight, he gave me his video camera.
Growing up, I watched Ryan Higa and Wong Fu Productions make their own films and find an audience. Seeing Asian creators get their time on screen made that world feel closer, and I wanted to be part of it. In high school, my friends and I started making YouTube videos of our own, working out how to turn an idea into something we could put on screen.
University took me in a different direction, and I studied a Bachelor of Commerce. After graduating, I decided to pursue videography, taking on client work while continuing to find my way as a filmmaker.
From 2019 to 2024, I was Head of Media at subtle asian traits, where I grew the YouTube channel past 50,000 subscribers and Instagram past 140,000 followers. In 2024, towards the end of that time, I also contributed as a producer to Jimmy Zhang's House of Feelings. Most recently, alongside commercial photo and video work, I handled filming, directing, story development, editing and logistics for Samui Slay, a creator series filmed on Ko Samui.
My 爷爷 is no longer here, but the camera he gave me started something that has stayed with me. I still love seeing an idea become a finished film, especially when it means something to the people watching. Today, whether I'm making work for a business, a creator or a family, I want to pay that same kind of attention to the people and moments in front of me.

How I work
Attention
-
Start with a conversation
Before I pick up a camera, I want to understand what you're making and who it's for.
-
Make room for people
Not everyone feels natural in front of a camera. I'll give you direction without asking you to become someone else.
-
Keep the purpose clear
A good-looking shot should earn its place. I think about what each image or scene adds to the finished piece.
-
Stay involved
I stay close to the work from planning through the edit, bringing in collaborators when the project needs them.
From the first message to the finished work
- 01
Enquiry
Tell me what you have in mind, even if it's still a rough idea.
- 02
Plan
We'll work out the approach, scope and practical details before the shoot.
- 03
Shoot
I'll guide the session and make room for the moments we couldn't have planned.
- 04
Deliver
I'll put the edit together and share the finished work in the agreed formats.
Off camera
My idea of a good project often starts somewhere I haven't been, with people I'm excited to work with. Travel and creator entertainment are a big part of what keeps me interested. I'd love to keep making space for the kinds of short films I grew up watching.
Got something in mind?
Tell me what you're planning. A rough idea is enough to start.
